I finished reading Kingdom Come yesterday. Old Man Batman is definitely one of my favorite characters. Why isn't there an Old Man Batman regular series? I've never bought a Batman comic, but I'd buy that.

The ending to Kingdom Come felt a bit too bright and quick. But again I'm unable to say what I would have prefered. The image of Superman going nuts and tearing down the United Nations building is great.

I've been trying to get through Gravity's Rainbow, and have been finding it pretty slow going, which bothers me a little. I'm probably too vain when it comes to books and which ones I enjoy, but everything about this novel suggests I should like it, and I do, really; but then why is it taking me so long?

My car is broken and I am going to go nuts.

And hey, Blogger has this new thing where you can get the "next blog." Well, OK. After this, apparently, is the weblog of a young Singaporean with, uh, unconventional spelling habits. And one of his friends is named Simon. It is one big crazy circle.

so long nv update my blog le...coz not in the mood for the past few days....feeling better now le....hehez....

Dueling Headlines

Unintentional irony or comic juxtaposition can sometimes be found at Google News:

from the Kansas City Star: U.S. Pledges Aid to 9/11 Trial in Germany
from the Washington Post: U.S. Denies German 9/11 Retrial Key Witness

I suppose one could also say that this is also an example of the curious power of headlines, or the multifaceted nature of truth before it is necessarily filtered into a news story. Or something.

I meant to distract myself from not being able to write fiction today by writing in my blog, but it turns out there are a number of entertaining distractions from that as well, many of which do not require any actual expenditure of effort, and therefore are quite appealing. I haven't sunk to playing Bejeweled yet, but I am close.

Some comics I have read recently or am reading:

Astonishing X-Men: I talked about this. It is OK. Not great. Better than most any X-Men comic I have previously bought, though, at least on a panel-to-panel basis. (Note that I bought my X-Men comics in the darkest part of the 1990s, if I am stepping on the toes of Claremont fans, or something.)

Miracleman: All my thoughts on superheros, and I have a lot of them, more than is normal, I think, are now filtered through this story.

The Red Star: Beautiful, but I wish it had been better written. I love the setting.

Kingdom Come: One more issue to go.

And how about that Spider-Man 2, huh? (I liked it.)

Now back to my story about the invisible grad student.
