I was thinking of something long and election-related and all-encompassing to post today, but, it didn't work out. First, there were people getting flu shots in front of where they keep the morning papers. How can I get to my morning (ok, noon) papers when there are people and shots and needles in the way? And it was all downhill from there.
Instead, three or four random facts.
1.) Pac-Man: The Motion Picture. At the Burger Ranch across the street from YVCC there was an old side-scrolling Pac-Man arcade game. Pac-Man Adventures, or some such nonsense. It was probably awful, but I tried to play it anyway. The opening screens had been so thoroughly burnt into the monitor that it was hard to see the game itself. Mostly I just stuck to that game where you are a chef and have to run over the hamburger ingredients and avoid the monsters by shaking your limited supply of pepper onto them. I was terrible. (I also listened to "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight" by REM over and over again on their jukebox. It was retro...TO THE EXTREME!)
2.) Brainy-type books I checked out today in order to write my paper: Friday's Footprint: How Society Shapes The Human Mind, by Leslie Brothers, Rethinking Religion: Connecting Cognition And Culture, by E. Thomas Lawson and Robert N. McCauley, The Conscious Mind: In Search Of A Fundamental Theory, by David J. Chalmers, and finally The Mind's I, edited by Douglas R. Hofstadter and Daniel C. Dennett. I will never finish these books.
3.) Terrifica! I'd say that, like, 50% of my readership has already seen this, since he's the one who gave me the link. But the story just kept getting odder, and so I thought I would keep it somewhere where I can reference it later. It is worth your time, though frankly I have a hard time believing it. Fantastico?
4.) So, uh, that's it. Like, totally go vote, and stuff. Righteous. Maximum!
